William Tempest is a British fashion designer and consultant based out of New York. Originally from Cheshire, Tempest moved to London aged 18 to study Womenswear Fashion Design at London College of Fashion before going on to work with Giles Deacon and then Jean Charles de Castelbajac in Paris. In 2009, Tempest was selected by Donatella Versace to show his first collection at London Fashion Week as part of the Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden initiative. The following year he made his debut at New York Fashion Week and received the WGSN Global Fashion Award for Best Emerging Talent.
Known for his strong sense of luxury, innovative cutting and experimental shape-making, Tempest’s designs are underpinned by a sharp elegance and precise level of construction and quality. Kate Moss, Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, Michelle Williams and Emma Watson are to name but just a few of those who have worn his creations, while he has received international press from Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Tatler, i:D, The Wall Street Journal and WWD. Tempest also featured in The Sunday Times’ Young Power List as one of the most influential “25 people under 26”.
His collaborative projects have included a capsule collection for the high street store River Island; an art installation in Queen Victoria’s bedroom for the Enchanted Palace exhibition at London’s Kensington Palace alongside designer Vivienne Westwood; as well as his current swimwear collection with W Hotels. Tempest has also been a judge on Britain’s Next Top Model; curated an exhibition on sustainable urban design with Smart Car; designed a range of laptop accessories for SonyVAIO; and has worked with global brands including Swarovski, Diesel, Walt Disney, and Olay.
